Over the last 10 years, there are claims seen by many in the use of vibration in sports performance.
However, I am interested to share a well-known sports recovery equipment before you decided in using vibration tech methods into personal training or craft in sports.
Do spend time to understand the features and greatness of the equipment of this deep tissue massage, which is efficient in saving time, money and energy compared to other products.
What is the Concept behind Deep Tissue Massage Device? (Percussive Therapy)
First, what is deep tissue massage device? The whole concept is related to deep tissue massage.
Deep Tissue Massage is a a specific method or procedure in massage that focuses on the deepest layers of muscle tissue, tendons, and fascia.
This technique focuses on using firmer pressure along with firm strokes to reach the deeper layers of muscle and connective tissue to get them to release.
Deep tissue massage can also refer to the gentle and sustained pressure targeting the myofascial layer (band or sheet of connective tissue, primarily collagen, beneath the skin that attaches, stabilizes, encloses, and separates muscles and other internal organs).
The science behind the deep tissue massage, which is sometimes called percussive therapy, is simple and is based on gate control theory.
This theory states that external non-painful stimulus (vibrations in this example) is able to suppress sensations of pain. This acts as a “trick” to the nervous system.
David Reavy, a physical therapist comments:
“When a person gets a massage or just uses a foam roller on their own, you can’t get into that spot as effectively”.
He adds; “The vibration is so fast, you don’t feel the pain and the muscle actually relaxes.”
Such is Percussive Therapy which is not new. It can be seen in NASA astronauts using whole body vibrations to stop bone loss.
The most popular deep massage device uses a vibration frequency up to 3200 vibrations/minute, moving its head attachment oscillating back and forth like a woodpecker motion at a rate of 30/40 times per second.
With the combination of vibrations and jabbing motions on the head attachment, this strikes the muscles to relax, while getting into the deeper layers of the tissue.
What are the benefit of the deep tissue massage device?
Benefit #1: The power of immediate effects and gains
In summary, the deep tissue massage device utilizes two things; high frequency (e.g. 40 vibrations per second) and force (e.g. 80 pounds) to help with muscle relieve, blood and lymph circulation and reduction of lactic acid build up.
Thus, deep tissue massage is the ideal tool for trainer, athletes, chiropractors, and physical therapists for a convenient and effective home massage therapy
Benefit #2. Loosening of Muscles
The deep tissue massage can be utilized for muscle relaxation and created blood flow post exercise, or a variety of muscle tension.
Vibrations relaxes the layers of muscle and creates a full body relaxation
Heavy training cycles causes microscopic damage (micro-trauma) to the muscle and fascial tissue. That damage must be repaired via increased blood flow (i.e., nourishment).
Since deep tissue massage helps the blood flow, the circulation of the lifter will be improved and this will enhance his or her performance levels.
This will have a great impact on lymphatic and blood circulation, influencing waste removal from these areas, as well as food and oxygen supply to these areas.
All of this leads to faster recovery and an earlier return to effective training.
Example: The Activfreeze deep tissue massage device has different massage attachments heads for different treatment in different body part muscles
Benefit #3. Alleviate Pain
Vibration massage has been recommended by The Ohio State University Medical Center as a way to alleviate pain which is drug free.
The deep tissue massage device is suitable for alleviating conditions that are painful by numbing the affected area. High-frequency pulses of pressure with concentrated targeting in body areas, quickens and facilitate repairs of deep muscle tissues.
Such helps the flow of blood in various critical areas, creating pain relief while assisting mobility and function of range of motion.
For example, if an athlete is in pain, he or she will not be able to approach maximum poundages. Chronic or acute pain unavoidably psyches out the lifter.
The less pain that is felt, the better the lifter will perform.
Pain is a signal that something is wrong, so that will have to be dealt with.
Deep tissue massage device will often be part of the required therapy.
Benefit #4. Recovery and Mobility Enhancement
Deep tissue muscle massage is also suitable for pinpointing irregularities deep into muscles and fascia.
White membrane located below the skin that acts as a connector for muscles, nerves, bones, and blood vessels are also known as fascia.
Typically, there are slippery surfaces on joints and organs to allow smooth movement.
However, muscles and fascia that face difficulty in stretching out happens occasionally, causing them to be stuck together.
Hence, it becomes injuries in soft tissue.
This creates restrictions in muscle movement, higher soreness in muscles, and less flexibility.
It should also be remembered that all muscles even when they do become overly tight, do not become so to the same extent all over the body.
Tightness in one muscle group may not be balanced off by a similar degree of tightness in the opposing muscles.
If not attended to, this can cause a permanent imbalance in the muscles.
We see the best example of this occurring with bench pressers.
They have well-developed pecs that are often in a permanently tight condition.
Steps to Use a Deep Tissue Massage Device
The steps to operate the deep tissue massage device is simple- place the business end on areas that require treatment (sore quads, throbbing shoulders, heavy neck pain even a painful lower/ upper back), squeeze the trigger.
Holding it from 10-30 seconds, or even a few minutes on the afflicted area.
15 minutes should be a good amount of time for a full body session. Check out the Compete Guide To Deep Tissue Massage .
The best time of using a deep tissue massage device:
Integrate the deep-tissue massage device into daily workout routines.
Applying the use of the massage device in your routine is easy. Utilize it in pre-workout, post-workouts, or even during workouts.
- Pre-workout:
Before warming up, perform a 2-3 minute full-body sweep to hit all major muscles from neck all the way towards the Achilles - During workout:
Target muscle groups that you have been training for 10 to 15 seconds during rest periods. Pain spots are priority. You can perform this in all sets or just a few according to your preferences. - Post-workout:
Use 20 minutes at home to hit painful areas in the muscle. 2-3 minutes is the recommended usage of this equipment. Place it at areas where it hurts to determine painful areas
Real look into how effect deep tissue massage device
If you try to use the deep tissue massage device in different time, it will have different effects. See below:
Refer to diagram for before and after picture for treatment. Notice the blood flow in the muscle group treated:
